To kick off the first of our virtual speakers events of the year, the Stern Technology Association and Professor Haran Segram had an open conversation with Square co-founder Jim McKelvey.
In 2009, Jim McKelvey co-founded the payments company Square with Jack Dorsey, current Twitter CEO. He served as Square's chairman until 2010 and currently sits on the board of directors. In 2012, McKelvey joined with other St. Louis natives and local entrepreneurs to found Cultivation Capital, a venture capital fund. In 2017, McKelvey was named as an Independent Director of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis.
Jim shared the path that led him to found Square, his experience running multiple new ventures, and his thoughts on the changing landscape for payments, startups, and monetary policy, among other topics.
